The questions people ask me before a photoshoot

After years of photographing tourists in Punta Cana, I hear the same worries again and again. Here they are, with honest answers.

"My husband hates having his picture taken."

Almost every session has one person who says this. It usually changes in the first ten minutes, because nobody is asked to perform. We walk, we talk, and I only ask for small things. The photos where he forgets I'm there are usually the best ones.

"We don't know how to pose."

You don't need to. I'll give you a direction when it helps — where to stand, where to look, when to slow down — and the rest of the time you just enjoy the beach.

"What if the kids need a break?"

They can take a break, move around and be themselves. We make the group portrait first, then leave room for play and the moments parents usually love most.

"Do you tell us what to do?"

Yes, when it's useful. You'll never stand there wondering what to do with your hands. But I won't turn the session into a list of poses either.

"We're staying at a resort. How does it work?"

We can do the session right there. Some resorts charge a fee for outside photographers or ask for registration, so tell me where you're staying and we'll check it before you book.

"What if it rains?"

Most showers pass in minutes, and light clouds are actually good for photos. Read what happens if it rains.
