What happens if it rains during your photoshoot?
How Caribbean weather really works, when we shoot anyway, and how rescheduling works during your stay.
You check the forecast for Punta Cana and it shows rain every single day. Don't panic. Here's how weather really works here and what we do about it.
Caribbean rain is usually short
Most rain in Punta Cana comes as short showers — ten or twenty minutes of heavy rain and then sun again. Phone forecasts often show "rain" for the whole day because a shower is likely at some point, not because it will rain all day.
Clouds are good news
A cloudy sky means soft, even light: no squinting, no harsh shadows. Some of my favorite sessions happened on cloudy afternoons.
What I do on the day
- I watch the radar and the sky, not just the app.
- If a shower is passing, we wait it out under cover — often it's gone in minutes.
- At resorts, lobbies and covered terraces make great backups.
- If it's truly bad (storms, strong wind, lightning), we look for another suitable time or date during your stay, subject to availability.
Book early in your trip
This is my best tip: don't book your session on your last day. If you book it early, we have room to move it if needed.
Hurricane season
The official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. In practice, most weeks in those months are normal summer weather with showers. If a storm is forecast, we'll talk and plan ahead together.
The bottom line
Rain almost never ruins a session here. With a little flexibility, you'll get your photos.
