Punta Cana wedding photography guide

Destination weddings in Punta Cana are beautiful, but they have their own rhythm: ceremonies set by the sunset, resort coordinators, guests from different countries. Here's what I tell couples when we plan.

Build the day around the light

The most important decision is the ceremony time. Midday ceremonies on the beach mean harsh sun and squinting guests. I usually recommend starting the ceremony so that it ends 60–90 minutes before sunset. That leaves time for family photos and couple portraits in the best light.

Sunset is around 6 pm in winter and 7 pm in summer.

A sample timeline (sunset at 6:15 pm)

• 1:30 pm — Details and getting ready
• 3:15 pm — First look (optional)
• 4:00 pm — Ceremony
• 4:30 pm — Family photos (15–20 min)
• 4:50 pm — Cocktail hour for guests / couple portraits
• 5:45 pm — Golden hour portraits
• 6:30 pm — Reception entrance, dinner, toasts
• 8:00 pm — First dance and party

How many hours do you need?

• Elopement (≈2 h): ceremony and portraits.
• Intimate (≈5 h): part of getting ready, ceremony, family, portraits, start of the reception.
• Full day (≈8 h): the complete story, from getting ready to the party.

If you want the story told completely — the nerves in the morning and the cousins dancing at night — choose full day.

Family photos: make a list

Family photos are where timelines slip. Make a short list of combinations and name one family member who knows everyone. With a list, 15–20 minutes is enough.

Video and drone

Video brings back the voices — vows, toasts, laughter. Drone gives scale: the aisle on the sand, the sea, the resort. Drone depends on resort rules and regulations; I check before the day.

2. Do you speak our guests' languages?
3. How do you handle family photos?
4. What happens if it rains?
5. When will we receive the photos?
