How to choose a Punta Cana wedding photographer

Most couples choose a destination wedding photographer by scrolling Instagram. That's a start, but a feed only shows the ten best photos of a hundred weddings. Here's what I'd look at if I were planning mine from another country.

1. Ask to see a complete wedding

The best way to judge a photographer is one whole wedding, not a highlight reel. Look for the parts nobody posts: the family photos, the ceremony from the back row, the reception when the light is bad. That's where experience shows.

2. Experience in Punta Cana specifically

Punta Cana weddings have their own rhythm: ceremonies timed to the sunset, strong midday sun, wind on the beach, resort coordinators with fixed schedules. Someone who works here all year knows how long things really take and where the light goes.

3. Can they handle family photos?

This is where wedding days fall behind. Ask how they organize group photos. A good answer includes a short list made in advance and someone from the family who knows everyone.

4. Language

If your families speak different languages, a bilingual photographer makes a real difference — with grandparents, with the officiant, with resort staff. I work in English and Spanish.

5. Do you feel comfortable with them?

This person will be next to you from the morning until the party. If a video call feels awkward, the wedding day will too. Most of my couples tell me they don't like being photographed; my job is to make that stop mattering.

6. Practical questions to ask

1. What's included, and how many hours do you recommend for our day?
2. How and when do we receive the photos?
3. What happens if something goes wrong on the day?
4. Do you offer video or drone, and does our resort allow drones?
5. What do you need from us before the wedding?

Clear answers to these are worth more than any adjective on a website.
